Meet The Scientist:
Rachel Schiff, Ph.D.
- Professor, Lester and Sue Smith Breast Center
- Member, Dan L Duncan Comprehensive Cancer Center
- Baylor College of Medicine
Rachel Schiff, Ph.D., earned her Ph.D. from Hebrew University Hadassah Medical School in Jerusalem and completed her post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. She joined Baylor College of Medicine in 1999 as a faculty member of the Lester and Sue Smith Breast Center.
Research Overview:
Dr. Schiff’s research program focuses on understanding the key signaling pathways in breast cancer and on identifying therapeutic strategies to overcome them, particularly for treatments targeting the estrogen receptor (ER) and the HER2 receptor. Major research themes include the crosstalk between the ER signaling network and growth factor and cellular kinase pathways, the role of ER co-regulators and pioneer factors in breast cancer development and metastasis, the identification of genomic and epigenomic alterations underlying resistance to endocrine and HER2-targeted therapies, and the development of biomarkers for tailored therapeutic interventions.
