Masataka Suzuki, Ph.D., is an associate professor in the Center for Gene Therapy and a member of the Dan L Duncan Comprehensive Cancer Center at Baylor College of Medicine. He has been a member of the Baylor faculty since 2013.
Research Overview:
Dr. Suzuki’s professional interests range from the application of helper-dependent adenoviral vectors in cancer immunotherapy to combinatorial cancer immunotherapy with gene therapy and cell therapy. He has extensive experience with adenoviral gene therapy for genetic disorders and cancer, as well as a broad background in the development of gene therapy vectors, with specific training and expertise in key research areas relevant to cancer immunotherapy. Since local treatment of oncolytic adeno-immunotherapy remains insufficient to create complete responses to metastatic tumors, his group has been working on a combination of oncolytic adenovirus with CAR T-cells that are home to both primary and metastatic tumors, thus overcoming the limited systemic anti-tumor effects of locally administered adenovirus-based cancer immunotherapies.
